Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed opens the show with an announcement that he will hold a first-time homebuyers’ seminar at Wholesale Capital Corporation in Moreno Valley on September 15. He encourages anyone interested in buying a home for the first time (or those re-entering the market) to attend; email [email protected] for more information.
Next, Ed welcomes 41st District congressional candidate Doug Shepherd, a registered Republican and real estate broker at Shepherd Realty Group in Riverside who has never run for office before. “We really, really need for Doug to win this election,” Ed says. Doug is running against incumbent Congressman Mark Takano, a Democrat who Doug says “Is not only not serving our community, but isn’t reflecting our community in his values.” Ed and Doug play a clip of Takano calling himself the first “Gaysian” congressman, and Doug reacts by saying, “It shows that he has a very specific set of priorities. I don’t mind that he represents the LGBT community – I could represent the LGBT community – but he has to show that he wants to represent all the people.”
Doug feels that many elected officials don’t understand the “representative and public service” part of their jobs; if he wins, he hopes to represent and serve the people of the 41st District. If you live in Perris or Moreno Valley and you are now part of the gerrymandered 41st District, Ed encourages you to vote for Doug Shepherd this November. If you are frustrated by the presidential candidates and are thinking of staying home on election day, Doug urges you to re-consider. “You need to show up to vote for the downticket,” Doug says, which means congressional candidates like him.
In the second half, Ed’s talking about Donald Trump’s policy speech on law and order near Milwaukee, which included the memorable line, “There is no compassion in tolerating lawless conduct from anyone.” Tune in to hear Ed’s thoughts on this well-received speech, including a comparison to public perception of Hillary Clinton. “It doesn’t matter who she is or what she does, because it only matters what she says,” Ed says, “Well, everything she says is a lie.” You’ll also hear about Trump’s campaign shakeup this week, with insights from people closest to the action – and, you’ll get a recap of the late-breaking news from Thursday night, when Trump made apologetic comments to those for whom he has “caused personal pain.”
Ed’s also talking about the idea of Bill Clinton moving back into the White House should Hillary become President – something that entered the news cycle this week thanks to Tim Kaine being asked about comments he made about Bill 14 years ago, which he dismissed as meaningless “past controversies.” Ed replies, “Past controversies? Remember four years ago, when it came out that Mitt Romney helped beat up some kids in grade school? That seemed pretty important to people back then.” As we close out the show, Ed is discussing the Louisiana Flood and the fact that President Obama hasn’t yet visited, saying, “Remember in 2005, Hurricane Katrina? George W. Bush did a flyover because he wanted to see the devastation, and he was ridiculed for years over that. But of course, it’s a whole different thing for Obama…what a double standard.” This week is a jam-packed show!
