An affordable housing community designed to help veterans and people with special needs has opened in Redlands.
Liberty Lane, 1215-1231 Texas Street, has 80 affordable homes, including 62 housing units meant for homeless and at-risk veterans, according to a statement on San Bernardino County’s website.
Support services, including case management, behavioral health care, clinical services and rental assistance through Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers, are available to all residents.
“We are proud to honor the men and women who served our country by providing safe, stable housing that supports their long-term success,” said Supervisor and Board Chair Dawn Rowe in the statement. “Liberty Lane offers more than housing; it provides dignity and opportunity.”
Liberty Lane was developed by A Community of Friends, a Los Angeles nonprofit, in partnership with the San Bernardino County Community Development and Housing Department, the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino, the Department of Behavioral Health, the Loma Linda VA Medical Center and U.S. VETS.
San Bernardino County invested $5 million to help build the project, according to the statement.
