San Bernardino receives federal transportation grant

Connector program gets federal grant

The Highland–Redlands Connector Project has received a boost from the federal government.

Rep, Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, recently presented $2 million to the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority to help advance the project, according to a statement on the authority’s website.

“If the transportation authority keeps delivering, I’ll keep helping,” Aguilar said.

The connector project will create a 5.2-mile network of walkways and bicycle lanes that will link Highlands and Redlands. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be finished one year later,

When completed, the connector project will ensure better access for students at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands by replacing a two-lane road with no sidewalks or bicycle lanes, according to the transportation authority.
