Workers have placed the final steel beam on the Student Success Center at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert campus.
The “topping out” ceremony Dec. 3 moved the university closer to completing its first state-funded building – and its first facility of any kind – in 16 years, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“We know that students’ needs will change over time, so we will have a building which aims to serve them as their needs evolve,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales, one of several dignitaries who signed the beam, in the statement. “This campus exists thanks to the passion of the people, and leaders, of Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley.”
Expected to be completed in 2027, the 27,000-square-foot center will house programs meant to improve graduation rates and student retention. It is being paid for with $79 million in state funds approved three years ago, according to the statement.
