Lake Elsinore has received $8 million in federal funding that it will use to support the city’s water quality project.
The funding is part of the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill for the 2026-27 fiscal year, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The bill was approved by the House Appropriations Committee last week, and will now go House of Representatives, where it is likely to be approved.
Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Corona, played a major role in securing the funding, according to the statement.
“Our community has made lake restoration and resilience a top priority,” said Mayor Brian Tisdale in the statement. “This investment marks a major step forward in ensuring Lake Elsinore remains a vibrant and thriving natural asset for generations to come.”
Besides water quality, Lake Elsinore officials plan to spend the money on protecting wildlife habitats and improving access to the lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in Southern California, according to the statement.
