Construction has started on a $19.9 million flood control project that will increase protection around March Air Reserve Base and parts of Perris.
The project – formal name Perris Valley Channel Lateral B, Stage 4 – is being developed by the Riverside County Flood Control & Water Conservation District, according to a statement on the county’s website.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Oct. 2.
When completed, the 6,000 feet of underground storm drains along the base’s southwest border are expected to provide flood protection for 100 years.
“This project shows what’s possible when we work together,” said Supervisor Jose Medina in the statement. “By strengthening flood protection, we’re keeping our residents safe, supporting our local economy, and ensuring long-term stability for both our communities and our military partners at March Air Reserve Base.”
March Air Reserve Base, the March Joint Powers Authority, Hillwood Investment Properties, and First Investment Realty all helped design the project, according to the statement.
