Kaiser Permanente donates to Perris food program

Kaiser Permanente has donated another $25,000 to the Grow Perris Initiative.

The contribution, made at a recent city council meeting, is the fourth made by Kaiser Permanente for Grow Perris since 2014, according to a statement.

Grow Perris looks to use gardens to establish pop-up produce markets and increase access to locally grown foods. The long-term goal is to create sustainable community gardens and address food insecurity in the city.

“Kaiser Permanente believes that health happens in the community, where we live work, play, worship and learn,” Cecilia Arias, community health manage for Kaiser Permanente, told the council. “That’s where the impact is found.”

There are more than 50 partners in Grow Perris, with the goal of building 30 gardens. After establishing the first community garden at city hall, Grow Perris has installed 19 gardens citywide, according to the statement.
