Moreno Valley has approved a $30,000 program to help residents buy food during the government shutdown.
Project Pantry will provide assistance to local food pantries and food distribution partners, including The Salvation Army, Power Speaks Louder, Inland Compassion, and Feeding America, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“The city is working hard to prevent Moreno Valley families from going hungry during this government shutdown,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera in the statement. “We are proud to partner with trusted Moreno Valley community-based organizations and local food pantries to ensure residents continue to have access to vital nutrition and sustenance.”
Funding for Project Pantry comes from the Moreno Valley Community Foundation, a nonprofit that works to improve the quality of life in the city, according to the statement.
Riverside recently announced a similar program with a $100,000 allotment.
