Moreno Valley to look at truck route changes

Moreno Valley residents and business owners are being asked their views on possible changes to truck routes the city is considering.

The proposed update is part of the city’s effort to comply with AB 98 and SB 415, both of which are meant to reduce air pollution and improve public health by placing stricter regulations on where heavy trucks may travel, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Besides reexamining existing and proposed truck routes, the city’s review will reassess buffer areas between truck routes and sensitive land uses, including homes, schools, parks, and hospitals.

“The use of heavy-duty trucks for the transportation of goods plays an important role in our regional economy, but we must mitigate the impact it has on our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera in the statement. “These proposed updates are about protecting public health, improving quality of life, and ensuring our city complies with state law while balancing the needs of residents and businesses.”
