The Palm Springs Public Library Foundation has started a capital campaign that will help pay for the renovation of the city’s public library.
The facility at 300 S. Sunrise Way shut down in September, and is undergoing a $52 million overhaul that is expected to take three years to complete, according to city officials.
The Palm Springs Public Library’s board of trustees has agreed to match the first $1 million raised by the foundation, which will double every gift. Six hundred and fifty thousand dollars in early commitments have been secured.
“Palm Springs has a long tradition of generosity and civic pride,” said Bill Wylie, the foundation’s board president, in the statement. “Our community has always championed the institutions that make this city unique, and our library is definitely one of them.”
The library is operating at a temporary facility at 4271 E. Palm Canyon Drive.
