Palm Springs to assist businesses damaged in spring attacks

Palm Springs is looking to help businesses owners whose establishments were damaged in the May 17 terrorist attacks.

The city has created the Palm Springs Recovery Fund, a $50,000 reserve that will help those businesses rebuild and recover financially, according to a statement on the city’s website.

“The Palm Springs city council and I are unwavering in our commitment to our local businesses,” said Mayor Ron deHarte in the statement. “That’s why we’ve allocated $50,000 to invest and help our small businesses not just reopen, but rebuild and thrive. We’re here to ensure the heart of our economy, our small businesses, can get back on their feet stronger than ever.”

The fund is meant to cover expenses that insurance agencies, or other community recovery programs typically don’t cover, including repairs to damaged windows, doors, framing, roofs, cosmetic damage, and capital losses.

Affected businesses may also benefit from reduced permit fees and other support services, according to the statement.
