Palm Springs is set to break ground on its library renovation project.
A ceremony is scheduled to be held from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sept. 18 at the main library at 300 S. Sunrise Way, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Mayor Ron deHarte and all four city council members, as well as Juanita-Garner Escobar, chair of the library’s board of trustees are scheduled to speak.
City Manager Scott Stiles will act as master of ceremonies. Jeannie Kays, the library’s director, will offer closing remarks.
The renovation, a series maintenance and manufacturing updates, will be paid for in part with a $6.5 million grant from the California State Library.
In August, the library was moved to a temporary site at Rimrock Plaza in the 4700 block of East Palm Canyon Drive. The renovation is expected to be completed in 18 to 36 months, according to the statement.
