San Bernardino County has opened a $125 million facility meant to improve response times to emergency calls.
A ribbon-cutting was held June 2 at the Valley Communications Center, a 75,000-square-foot facility in San Bernardino that will be a hub for police, fire and other emergency calls countywide, according to a statement on the county’s website.
The facility at 153 S. Lena Road puts the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services’ Emergency Operations Center, the Sheriff’s Department Valley Dispatch Center and Consolidated Fire Agencies (CONFIRE) dispatch operations under one roof.
Amenities include two 1,000-kilowatt backup generators, two 20,000-gallon water storage tanks and a 192-foot communications tower.
The communications center is expected to be operating at full capacity by the end of this month.
“The Valley Communications Center is strengthening those partnerships by bringing key public safety and emergency coordination functions closer together,” said Crisanta Gonzalez, director of emergency management for the county’s Office of Emergency Services, in the statement. “This facility provides the space, technology and coordination needed to bring partners together, share information and support a unified response.”
