San Bernardino County is close to receiving a $38.7 million state grant that it will use to build a facility to help homeless people.
The county’s Behavioral Health Department has received a conditional award letter from the the state Department of Health Care Services confirming the $38.7 million the county had asked for to pay for the project, according to a statement on the county’s website.
The 32-bed project, which will be built at 2626 Pacific St. in Highland, will create a “one-stop shop” for housing supports and services. It will include recuperative care, treatment for drug and abuse, and housing for San Bernardino County residents.
“This grant will allow us to establish 32 much-needed residential treatment beds for individuals battling substance use disorders,” Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. said in the statement. “This investment signifies our commitment to expanding access to quality care and supporting healthier, stronger communities for all.”
A construction timeline for the project has not been announced.
