For the third consecutive year, San Bernardino County claimed the most national awards presented by the National Association of Counties.
The largest geographic county in the United States won 257 awards in June, topping the record 200 awards it won last year, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Public Health won 33 awards for programs ranging from mobile vaccination clinics to preparing pet owners to cope with natural disasters. Public Works claimed 32 awards for projects that included the Big Bear Alpine Zoo animal evacuation during the Line Fire and lessening flood risks in Wrightwood.
More than 30 of the county’s 40 departments and agencies received awards this year. San Bernardino County has won more than 1,000 state and national awards for projects and programs during the past 10 years, according to the statement.
“NACo” is a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. Its awards recognize innovation, efficiency and public service, according to the statement.
