San Bernardino is seeking volunteers for its annual homeless Point-in-Time Count, scheduled to be held this month.
Participants will be sent out in teams throughout the city to locate and identify unhoused individuals, either in shelters or living on the street, according to a statement on San Bernardino’s website.
The teams will distribute backpacks filled with essential items to assist people they encounter.
“A complete and accurate count is essential to address homelessness in the city,” said Cassandra Searcy, San Bernardino’s deputy director of housing and homelessness, in the statement. “Volunteer participation is crucial for a successful count, and we hope San Bernardino residents will again turn out to be an important part of the solution.”
The count is scheduled to be held from 5:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 22. Participants will meet at Gate 10 at National Orange Show, 930 S. Arrowhead Ave.
Operated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the PIT Count identities the number of unhoused individuals throughout the nation.
