San Bernardino has received a $1 million federal grant that its police department will use to expand its use of technology, specifically so it can monitor and respond to incidents more effectively.
Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, arranged the funding and presented the department with a ceremonial check during a news conference Jan. 28, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“I first ran for Congress in order to bring home federal dollars that help improve the quality of life for working families here in the Inland Empire, including making our community safer,” said Aguilar in the statement. “That’s why I am proud to have secured more than $1 million in community project funding for San Bernardino’s Mobile Crime Prevention Program.”
The funds will bring more security cameras to downtown San Bernardino and other strategic locations. They will help assist with investigations and prosecutions of crimes.
The funding is part of the 2025-2026 Community Project Funding budget request made by Aguilar, according to the statement.
