Construction began Feb. 17 on upgrades to the eastbound offramp of Waterman Avenue on the Foothill Freeway in San Bernardino.
The $7.2 million project will add guard rails and a third rail, which is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve safety, according to a statement on San Bernardino’s website.
The traffic signals on Waterman Avenue will also be modified. The Caltrans project, which is expected to be completed in October, follows a widening of the Waterman Avenue onramp.
“Heavy traffic volume at the Waterman Avenue off-ramp often backups onto the 210 Freeway, raising collision risk,” the statement reads. “This project aims to increase the off-ramp capacity improve signal operations, and enhance safety.
Most of the work will be done at night, and the offramp will be closed occasionally on weekends, according to the statement.
