The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 3.8 percent in May, the lowest rate recorded in 18 years.
Employers nationwide added 223,000 jobs, while average hourly pay rose 2.7 percent, slightly less than it grew in April, the U.S. Department of Labor reported.
Overall, there were 6.1 million people out of work last month.
Retail, health care, construction, professional-technical services and logistics were among the sectors that added workers last month, according to the labor department.
