Palm Springs to upgrade fire station

Palm Springs has decided to renovate one of its fire stations.

The city is accepting bids to renovate and expand Station 4, which has seen no significant upgrades since it was built in 1971, said Amy Blaisdell, city spokeswoman.

Station 4, at 1300 Laverne Way, serves the south part of the city.

“It’s an old station that needs to be enlarged and brought up to modern standards, with state-of-the-art technology,” Blaisdell said.

All work will be paid for with revenue generated by Measure J, a one percent sales tax increase voters approved in 2011 to pay for capital improvement projects. All renovation will be designed to increase response time, according to a statement on the city’s website.

It’s not known how long the bid process will last or how much will be spent on the project, Blaisdell said.
