State grant to RCCD will help train workers

The Riverside Community College District has been awarded a $470,000 contract by the California’s Employment Training Panel.

Earmarked for the district’s economic development office, the contract will train up to 800 local workers through the district’s Customized Training Solutions, a program designed to help Inland businesses build a strong workforce, according to a statement.

“With unemployment in the Inland Empire down in some areas to approximately four percent, it is vital for businesses to have access to training that unleashes passion and renewed commitment from employees,” said Mark Mitchell, the district’s director of business and corporate innovation, in the statement.

Customized Training Solutions has agreed to deliver several programs in advanced manufacturing technology, computer, continuous improvement and hazardous materials. Its work is aided by trained professionals.

The Employment Training Panel supports job creation and retention. It reimburses employers for the cost of training workers, pays to train unemployed workers so they can reenter the workforce and helps ensure that California businesses have the trained workers that help them remain competitive, according to the statement.
