MoVal gets award for internet access

Moreno Valley has been recognized for helping its residents get better internet access.

The California Society of Municipal Finance Officers recently presented the city with its Innovation Award for its CLiC program, according to a statement on the city’s website.

CLiC – Computer Learning and Internet Connectivity – provides free internet via the city’s WiFi at various city facilities, along with public-use computers at Moreno Valley’s three libraries. It also has a free virtual community portal that helps build users’ computer knowledge and skills, along with links to low- or no-cost computers and internet service.

“We believe our entire community benefits as more and more residents are able to take advantage of 21st century technology,” Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said in the statement. “We are especially proud to receive this recognition since we created CLiC in the middle of the pandemic.”

CLiC was launched last October.
