Riverside gets housing grant

Federal grant will help Fontana with affordable housing project

Fontana has received a $1.2 million federal grant that will help continue development of an affordable housing project.

The first phase of the Aldea Apartments, 15186 Foothill Blvd., consists of 78 units, 70 of which provide affordable housing for working families and individuals, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The remaining eight units are for homeless people.

The grant from the U.S. Department of House and Urban Development was arranged by Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino. It will be used to help pay for, and entitle, property, that will be used to expand.

“We know how important it is for our neighbors to have access to safe and affordable homes for their families, even when they fall on hard times,” Aguilar said in the statement. “To upgrade and expand the Aldea Apartments gives families at risk of homelessness a stable, low-cost place to call home.”

The second phase will include more housing units, a play, dog park, open space, and parking, according to the statement.
