Shut Off Those Sprinklers

With cool, rainy weather expected this week, Riverside residents are being asked to turn off their sprinklers.

“Shutting off irrigation systems for a few days after a rain is one of the easiest ways to save water during the drought,” said Girish Balachandran, Riverside’s public utilities general manager, in a statement released Monday. “This wet, cool weather will help Riverside get a little closer to achieving our water conservation goal from the state.”

The statement does not say if anyone will be penalized for running their sprinklers this week. As of Nov. 1, customers of Riverside Public Utilities are allowed to water their lawns only two days a week, and only between 6 p.m. to 10 a.m.
