AQMD Files Suit Again Regarding Moreno Valley Project

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has filed its second lawsuit against the city of Moreno Valley in connection with the proposed World Logistics Center.

The suit, which was filed Thursday in Riverside County Superior Court, asks the city and Highland Fairview, the project’s developer, to “better assess and mitigate” the amount of air pollution the massive logistics project is likely to create, according to an AQMD statement.

Specifically, the suit asks the Moreno Valley City Council to rescind the two initiatives it adopted last November that were meant to block legal challenges to the project based on the California Environmental Quality Act.

The suit also asks that Moreno Valley be prohibited from issuing any more permits or taking any other action that would allow the project to proceed.

Officials with the city and Highland Fairview could not be reached for comment.

On Tuesday, the Riverside County Registrar of Voters announced that opponents of the World Logistics Center had not gathered enough signatures to get the project placed on the local ballot.
